Record #92475:

The location of impurities in Antarctic ice / Eric W. Wolff, Robert Mulvaney, K. Oates.

Title: The location of impurities in Antarctic ice / Eric W. Wolff, Robert Mulvaney, K. Oates.
Author(s): Wolff, Eric W.
Mulvaney, Robert.
Oates, K.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: Cambridge: International Glaciological Society
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1988.), Vol. 11 (1988)
Abstract: Analysis of ice sample with estimated age of 125 a, from Dolleman Island, showed that H₂SO₄ occurs mainly at triple junctions. Sea salts show no such localization. Different behaviour may be due to freezing-point behaviour of each chemical substance, and to effect that this has both in atmosphere and during recrystallization in ice sheet. If this finding applies generally to other parts of ice sheet, it has major implications for many of physical properties of ice sheet, especially DC electrical conductivity.
