Abstract: Accumulation rates in eastern part of Ronne Ice Shelf were determined by isotopic stratigraphy, using samples taken in 1984 and 1986. In general, accumulation rate decreases towards south. δ¹⁸O values of near-surface layers vary between -25 and -29o/oo. δ¹⁸O content in southerly part is progressively depleted in direction of Möllereisstrom, paralleling decrease in accumulation rate. Near ice edge, δ¹⁸O content decreases to west. 100 m ice core drilled in 1984 at point 220 km from ice edge probably goes back to AD 1460 (dated by isotopic stratigraphy). Accumulation rate up-stream of drilling site was deduced from sequence of annual layers, using simple ice-flow model. Accumulation shows strong variations over last 200 a, which may be caused by local variations in accumulation on Ronne Ice Shelf.
