Record #92439:

Profile properties of undeformed first-year sea ice / Gordon F.N. Cox, Wilford F. Weeks.

Title: Profile properties of undeformed first-year sea ice / Gordon F.N. Cox, Wilford F. Weeks.
Author(s): Cox, Gordon F. N.
Weeks, Wilford F.
Date: 1988.
Publisher: Hanover, NH: US Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory
In: CRREL Report. (1988.), Vol. 88-13 (1988)
Abstract: Often, no regard is given to vertical variation of properties in sea ice, nor to time of ice formation. In developing this subject, applicable knowledge of variations in ice structure is reviewed and existing data are discussed, relating various mechanical properties of sea ice to state of ice. This information is combined with model that calculates sea-ice growth rates, ice thicknesses, temperatures and salinities, based on climatological data. Finally, examples are presented of profile properties of first-year sea ice of various thicknesses in Arctic Ocean, assuming different dates for initial formation of ice.
