Record #92424:

Diurnal frost-heave activity in the Sør-Rondane mountains, Antarctica / Norikazu Matsuoka, Kiichi Moriwaki, Kazuomi Hirakawa.

Title: Diurnal frost-heave activity in the Sør-Rondane mountains, Antarctica / Norikazu Matsuoka, Kiichi Moriwaki, Kazuomi Hirakawa.
Author(s): Matsuoka, Norikazu.
Moriwaki, Kiichi.
Hirakawa, Kazuomi.
Date: 1988.
In: Arctic and Alpine Research. (1988.), Vol. 20(4) (1988)
Abstract: Measurements made on humid debris slope. Results: (1) diurnal frost heave >0.2 mm (maximum 1.8 mm) occurred 12 times during 22 d in austral summer period, (2) diurnal active layers were limited in extent and restricted to depths above 15 cm, (3) thickness of active layer affected amount of succeeding frost heave, heave attaining >1 mm when thaw depth exceeded 12 cm, (4) maximum potential frost-creep rate on surrounding slope of 20° is estimated to be 5 to 7 mm a⁻¹.
Notes:

Arctic and Alpine Research. Vol. 20(4) :422-428 (1988).

Keywords: 551.343 -- Periglacial processes. Thermokarst.
E8 -- Glaciology: frost action and permafrost.
(*7) -- Antarctic regions.
(*734.3) -- Sor-Rondane.
