Salt-water anchor ice formation: observations from the Alaskan Beaufort Sea and flume experiments / E.W. Kempema, Erk Reimnitz, P.W. Barnes.

Title: Salt-water anchor ice formation: observations from the Alaskan Beaufort Sea and flume experiments / E.W. Kempema, Erk Reimnitz, P.W. Barnes.
Author(s): Kempema, E. W.

Date: 1988.
In: Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1988.), Vol. 69(44) (1988)
Abstract: Abstract of paper to be presented at AGU Fall Meeting, to be held in San Francisco, 6-11 December 1988. Describes how sediment-laden anchor ice is incorporated in seasonal ice cover after its release from bottom, forming important mechanism for entraining coarse sediment into ice canopy. To gain insight into anchor-ice formation, experiments were performed in race-track flume. These suggested that salt-water anchor ice forms only on previously ice-bonded sediments.
