Record #91858:

On the relative roles of density gradients and fabric layering on heat and mass transport in snow / Edward E. Adams, Robert L. Brown.

Title: On the relative roles of density gradients and fabric layering on heat and mass transport in snow / Edward E. Adams, Robert L. Brown.
Author(s): Adams, Edward E.
Brown, Robert L.
Date: 1988.
In: Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1988.), Vol. 69(44) (1988)
Abstract: Abstract of poster to be presented at AGU Fall Meeting, to be held in San Francisco, 6-11 December 1988. Results show that when temperature gradients become negligible (>10 m in Antarctic firn) stratigraphy associated with density gradients and fabric layering continues to cause exchange of mass between layers. Mass migrates from low-density to high-density layers, resulting in development of small temperature differences between ice and vapour phase. Similar process between large- and small-grained layers. Processes are slow, but considerable exchange of mass between annual layers may occur.
