Record #91103:
The yield of avalanche snow at Rogers Pass, British Columbia, Canada / Peter A. Schaerer.
Title: | The yield of avalanche snow at Rogers Pass, British Columbia, Canada / Peter A. Schaerer. |
Author(s): | Schaerer, Peter A. |
Date: | 1988. |
In: | Journal of Glaciology. (1988.), Vol. 34(117) (1988) |
Abstract: | Annual mass of snow moved was observed at 45 avalanche paths for 19 years by measuring volume and density of each individual avalanche. For data set, yield ratio (% of snow removed annually by avalanches) had mean value of 11.2% and 30-year maximum of 30.9%. Yield ratio varied strongly among different avalanche paths as well as showing yearly variation. Temporal variability of avalanche yield is erratic, but weather patterns associated with high or low yield ratios could be identified. |
Notes: | Journal of Glaciology. Vol. 34(117) :188-193 (1988). |
