Abstract: Describes two models that estimate glacier ablation from meteorological observations using these approaches, which are used to determine bulk-exchange coefficient for transfer of sensible- and latent-heat energy to melting ice surface from 17 summer days of measurement on Ivory Glacier, New Zealand. Behaviour of coefficient is examined over progressively increasing time intervals and as function of wind speed and gradient, and of atmospheric forcing. Models verified with independent data from different summer on same glacier.
