Record #90862:
A guide to Phanerozoic cold polar climates from high-latitude ice-rafting in the Cretaceous / L.A. Frakes, J.E. Francis.
Title: | A guide to Phanerozoic cold polar climates from high-latitude ice-rafting in the Cretaceous / L.A. Frakes, J.E. Francis. |
Author(s): | Frakes, L. A. Francis, J. E. |
Date: | 1988. |
In: | Nature. (1988.), Vol. 333(6173) (1988) |
Abstract: | Study of outsize exotic blocks in central Australia led to conclusion that they were emplaced by ice-rafting, implying that high-latitude ice was present at sea level at this time. Strata of similar origin of mid-Jurassic to mid-Cretaceous age occur on other continents that were positioned between 65 and 78° palaeolatitude. Suggests that ice was present on Earth for much of its history and that ice-free conditions were at most only episodic over past 600 Ma. |
Notes: | Nature. Vol. 333(6173) :547-549 (1988). |
Keywords: | 551.583.3 -- Climatic changes, Quaternary. E9 -- Glaciology: meteorology and climatology. |
