Record #90763:
Localized basal freezing within George VI Ice Shelf, Antarctica / Mark Pedley, Julian G. Paren, John R. Potter.
Title: | Localized basal freezing within George VI Ice Shelf, Antarctica / Mark Pedley, Julian G. Paren, John R. Potter. |
Author(s): | Pedley, Mark. Paren, Julian G. Potter, John R. |
Date: | 1988. |
In: | Journal of Glaciology. (1988.), Vol. 34(116) (1988) |
Abstract: | Discusses conditions at Hobbs Pool, an area of thin ice shelf surrounded by thicker ice which isolates upper 155 m of water from water lying at same depth elsewhere under ice shelf. This 155 m of water is formed by drainage of summer melt-water lakes through crevasses at pool. More saline water at bottom of pool leads to in situ freezing of fresher water lying above it. |
