Record #90763:

Localized basal freezing within George VI Ice Shelf, Antarctica / Mark Pedley, Julian G. Paren, John R. Potter.

Title: Localized basal freezing within George VI Ice Shelf, Antarctica / Mark Pedley, Julian G. Paren, John R. Potter.
Author(s): Pedley, Mark.
Paren, Julian G.
Potter, John R.
Date: 1988.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1988.), Vol. 34(116) (1988)
Abstract: Discusses conditions at Hobbs Pool, an area of thin ice shelf surrounded by thicker ice which isolates upper 155 m of water from water lying at same depth elsewhere under ice shelf. This 155 m of water is formed by drainage of summer melt-water lakes through crevasses at pool. More saline water at bottom of pool leads to in situ freezing of fresher water lying above it.
