Record #90697:

Winter observations of iceberg frequencies and sizes in the South Atlantic Ocean / Peter Wadhams.

Title: Winter observations of iceberg frequencies and sizes in the South Atlantic Ocean / Peter Wadhams.
Author(s): Wadhams, Peter.
Date: 1988.
In: Journal of Geophysical Research. (1988.), Vol. 93(C4) (1988)
Abstract: Results of observations made in midwinter 1986 show that, in heavy sea, icebergs have to be >115 m in diameter to be detected and that detectability falls off severely for all bergs at ranges exceeding 15 km. Most bergs had diameters <1 km, with preferred size of 400 to 500 m. High density of icebergs in latitudes 53 to 56° S at longitude 19 to 30° W contrasted with virtual absence of bergs in same latitude band at longitude 1 to 9° E.
