A relationship between heat transfer to sea ice and temperature-salinity properties of Arctic Ocean waters / R.W. Moore, Douglas W.R. Wallace.
Title: | A relationship between heat transfer to sea ice and temperature-salinity properties of Arctic Ocean waters / R.W. Moore, Douglas W.R. Wallace. |
Author(s): | Moore, R. W. Wallace, Douglas W. R. |
Date: | 1988. |
In: | Journal of Geophysical Research. (1988.), Vol. 93(C1) (1988) |
Abstract: | Demonstrates that characteristic temperature-salinity relationship shown by thermocline waters of Arctic Ocean can be reproduced using simple model based on transfer of heat directly from these waters to sea ice. Can be deduced that there is direct sensible heat flux from waters of Atlantic origin to ice cover. Such interaction could play major role in determining physical properties of Arctic water masses. |
