Record #90525:

Frost upheaval of overwintering plants: a quantitative field study of the displacement process / E. Perfect, R.D. Miller, B. Burton.

Title: Frost upheaval of overwintering plants: a quantitative field study of the displacement process / E. Perfect, R.D. Miller, B. Burton.
Author(s): Perfect, E.
Miller, R. D.
Burton, B.
Date: 1988.
In: Arctic and Alpine Research. (1988.), Vol. 20(1) (1988)
Abstract: Uplift of all types of plants have been commonly ascribed to alternate freeze-thaw cycles in autumn and spring, with no consideration of seasonal heave cycle. Suggests that this is incorrect and that process of upheaval may be divided into two modes: seedlings and transplants may be uprooted by surficial soil freezing in autumn and/or spring, and well-rooted plants may be displaced by deep frost penetration during midwinter.
Notes:
