Abstract: | Air exchange in porous firn is important factor that determines age difference between air and ice and width of age distribution in ice cores. Molecular diffusion is dominant process that controls exchange. This study focuses on reports of measurements of diffusivity of CO₂ and O₂ (in NO₂) in firn samples from Siple station, Antarctica. Results suggest overall effect results in reduction of 10% of values for mean age difference published previously by Schwander and Stauffer (1984). Palaeoclimatological implications. |
