Abstract: | Finsterwalder (1960) developed technique for measuring volumetric change of glaciers, and hence mass balance. In method initially developed, comparative methods depended on hand planimetry. Recently, it has become possible to utilize digital data generated from maps. These two methods were compared in determining 1957-86 mass balance of glacier; planimetry was preferred, although digital data method was faster. Balance over past 29 years has been markedly negative. |
