Abstract: | Consists of two oldest remaining records of Finnmark Thing transactions. Century saw many changes, including replacement of furs and hides by fish, especially dried fish for southern markets, and settlers moving in from South as well as from abroad. Introduction by Einar Niemi describes trading dominance of Bergen, tax (internal and Swedish) and tithing disputes, fluctuations in catches, and increase in up-fjord livestock farming (including some Saami fisher-farmers); two important topics are witchcraft (likely to have ethnic dimension) and trade disputes.
