Record #88947:

Snow retention in a large cutblock / Allen M.K. Nip, Robert H. Swanson.

Title: Snow retention in a large cutblock / Allen M.K. Nip, Robert H. Swanson.
Author(s): Nip, Allen M. K.
Swanson, Robert H.
Date: 1987.
Publisher: Ottawa: National Research Council Canada. Associate Committee on Geotechnical Research
In: National Research Council of Canada. Associate Committee on Geotechnical Research. Technical Memorandum. (1987.), Vol. 140 (1987)
Abstract: Purpose of study was to obtain evidence that clear-cut areas larger than 14 tree heights across accumulate less snow than uncut forest site. Based on sample of one only. Results show that this may be so, but cause is less clear. However, during one period, amount of snow under trees in both control (area between 10 and 15 tree heights from clear-cut border) and forest (area from clear-cut edge to 10 tree heights from it) decreased, while that in clear-cut area increased.
