Abstract: Dilution method of Bader (1948) was used to follow melting of a sub-alpine snowpack in Canadian Rockies in May-June 1984. Ten morning and ten afternoon measurements were made every third day in vertical pit walls. Additional tests were made along one horizon below surface. Percent water by mass remained mostly in band 5 to 15% averaged over entire profile. Maxima tended to be at top of profile. Average error in repeatability was <3% in vertical tests and <1% in test on one horizon. One operator can achieve rate of 10 samples per hour.
