Record #88924:

Illustrations of effects of ice in the distribution of major ions in lakes / W. Peter Adams.

Title: Illustrations of effects of ice in the distribution of major ions in lakes / W. Peter Adams.
Author(s): Adams, W. Peter.
Date: 1987.
In: Eastern Snow Conference. Proceedings. (1987.), Vol. 43rd [1986] Annual Meeting (1987)
Abstract: As surface layers of lake freeze, ions are exsolved and concentrated in decreasing unfrozen water body. Process affects entire water column but is most marked in immediate sub-ice layer. Sub-ice ion concentrations are reduced when ions are lost from water during slushing events which produce ion-rich "white ice" on top of original ice sheet. Entire ice sheet greatly affects spring ion regime of lake. Lakes studied are Knob Lake, PQ, and Plastic Lake, Ontario.
