Record #88904:

Analysis of 112 years of ice conditions observed on the Ohio River at Cincinnati / Steven F. Daly, Michael A. Bilello.

Title: Analysis of 112 years of ice conditions observed on the Ohio River at Cincinnati / Steven F. Daly, Michael A. Bilello.
Author(s): Daly, Steven F.
Bilello, Michael A.
Date: 1987.
In: Eastern Snow Conference. Proceedings. (1987.), Vol. 43rd [1986] Annual Meeting (1987)
Abstract: Daily ice conditions for winters of 1874-75 to 1985-86 were examined. Amount of ice on river has decreased since 1900, except for particularly cold winters; this has been especially apparent since 1930. Associations between numbers of days with river ice and concurrent accumulated freezing degree-days over 10- or 11-winter increments were investigated. More freezing degree-days were required to produce ice between winters 1934-35 and 1963-64, but trend has reversed since then, during period of commercial development of basin as indicated by sample population, construction of locks and dams, and increased river navigation.
