Der Flächenverlust der Gletscher in Österreich 1850--1920--1969 / Günther Gross.
Title: | Der Flächenverlust der Gletscher in Österreich 1850--1920--1969 / Günther Gross. |
Translated title: | Areal losses of the glaciers in the Austrian Alps 1850--1920--1969. |
Author(s): | Gross, Günther. |
Date: | 1987. |
Language: | German. |
In: | Zeitschrift für Gletscherkunde und Glazialgeologie. (1987.), Vol. 23(2) (1987) |
Abstract: | From calculations of glacier surface areas at these dates, conclusions can be drawn about areal losses over this period. Glaciers which have vanished completely since 1850 account for 3.7% of areal loss since then. Altitudinal distribution of areal losses since 1850 shows maximum (>30%) in zone between 2,600 and 2,800 m; zone below 2,500 m accounts for 20%. Areal loss depends more on glacier size than on aspect. Small glaciers (<1 km²) suffered greater losses before 1920, whereas larger glaciers were more affected after 1920. |
