Record #88500:
Oxygen isotope evidence of freshwater pools and ice accretion below multiyear landfast sea ice, northern Ellesmere Island / Martin O. Jeffries.
Title: | Oxygen isotope evidence of freshwater pools and ice accretion below multiyear landfast sea ice, northern Ellesmere Island / Martin O. Jeffries. |
Author(s): | Jeffries, Martin O. |
Date: | 1987. |
Publisher: | Ottawa: National Research Council of Canada. Associate Committee on Geotechnical Research |
In: | National Research Council of Canada. Associate Committee on Geotechnical Research. Technical Memorandum. (1987.), Vol. 41 (1987) |
Abstract: | Finds evidence of pronounced annual layers that arise from ice growth associated with fresh-/sea-water stratification below ice. Much of "sea ice" is composed of fresh water. Annual layers are not evident in core from deformed multiyear landfast sea ice, which has salinities of as much as 12.1 o/oo. Oxygen isotope values at bottom of core indicate that stratification occurred only after deformation. |
