Record #88498:

Extreme ice feature maps of the Arctic Ocean derived from data recorded by nuclear submarines / Leonard A. LeSchack.

Title: Extreme ice feature maps of the Arctic Ocean derived from data recorded by nuclear submarines / Leonard A. LeSchack.
Author(s): LeSchack, Leonard A.
Date: 1987.
Publisher: Ottawa: National Research Council of Canada. Associate Committee on Geotechnical Research
In: National Research Council of Canada. Associate Committee on Geotechnical Research. Technical Memorandum. (1987.), Vol. 41 (1987)
Abstract: 363 ice-draft probability distributions (1 m depth intervals) were obtained, covering entire Arctic Ocean basin. Each draft distribution is derived from nominally 50 km lengths of contiguous profile data along each cruise track and is also recorded on 9-track tape. Computations from data are basis for preparing contour maps of mean ice depth, standard deviation about mean, percent open water/thin ice, and probability of encountering deep-draft ice (>30 m). Contour-tracing algorithm was used to map these four parameters on North Pole-centred transverse Mercator base. Discussion, p. 383.
