| Abstract: | Presents analytical review of 24 compilations of surface mass balance with emphasis on chronological development and growth of point-specific database from 175 to >1500 locations, as reported in 225 identified sources. Data collected during exploration phase of surface glaciology studies (1956-68, published 1958-71) are widespread whereas compilations appearing after 1971 show that database has improved in coastal zone, including major ice shelves. |
