Correlation of a 3,200 year old tephra in ice cores from Vostok and South Pole stations, Antarctica / Julie M. Palais, Ellen Mosley-Thompson, E. Thomas.
Title: | Correlation of a 3,200 year old tephra in ice cores from Vostok and South Pole stations, Antarctica / Julie M. Palais, Ellen Mosley-Thompson, E. Thomas. |
Author(s): | Palais, Julie M. Mosley-Thompson, Ellen. Thomas, E. |
Date: | 1987. |
In: | Geophysical Research Letters. (1987.), Vol. 14(8) (1987) |
Abstract: | Correlation established; tephra believed to have been produced from major explosive eruption of Candlemas Island, South Sandwich Islands. First time that tephra layers have been correlated between two widely separated ice cores. Demonstrates that tephra layers may serve as stratigraphic markers for correlating and, possibly, dating Antarctic ice cores. |
