Record #84806:

A mechanism of basal ice-layer formation involving major ice-fabric changes / J.-L. Tison, R.D. (Reginald D.) Lorrain.

Title: A mechanism of basal ice-layer formation involving major ice-fabric changes / J.-L. Tison, R.D. (Reginald D.) Lorrain.
Author(s): Tison, J. -L.
Lorrain, R. D.
Date: 1987.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1987.), Vol. 33(113) (1987)
Abstract: Glacier de Tsanfleuron, Swiss Alps, has lateral subglacial cavities in which basal ice layer forms on bedrock floor and is subsequently incorporated at base of glacier. Petrographic and crystallographic analyses of different types of ice show major structural changes which provide field confirmation of deformation mechanism studied by several authors in laboratory experiments.
Notes:

Journal of Glaciology. Vol. 33(113) :47-50 (1987).

Keywords: 551.32 -- Glaciology.
551.324 -- Land ice.
551.324.81 -- Glacier bands, lamination, layering and foliation.
