Record #84702:

Control of spring run-off in northern rivers: the ice veil concept / G.S.H. Lock.

Title: Control of spring run-off in northern rivers: the ice veil concept / G.S.H. Lock.
Author(s): Lock, G. S. H.
Date: 1987.
In: Polar Record. (1987.), Vol. 23(145) (1987)
Abstract: Describes theory behind this concept of annually renewable ice dam intended to control increased spring runoff in Peace River near junction with Lake Athabasca. Based on use of cryosyphons fixed across river so that cold air blowing across fins of syphons in early winter removes heat from tubes, producing ice on their submerged surfaces around which wall of ice is generated through natural conditions.
Notes:

Polar Record. Vol. 23(145) :451-457 (1987).

Keywords: 624.145.8 -- Rivers, ice jams and their control.
E6 -- Glaciology: floating ice.
