Record #84504:

Ground probing radar in the investigation of the competency of frozen tailings pond dams. Project 62501 / P.T. LaFlèche, Alan S. Judge, J.A. Pilon.

Title: Ground probing radar in the investigation of the competency of frozen tailings pond dams. Project 62501 / P.T. LaFlèche, Alan S. Judge, J.A. Pilon.
Author(s): LaFlèche, P. T.
Judge, Alan S.
Pilon, J. A.
Date: 1987.
Publisher: Ottawa: Geological Survey of Canada
In: Geological Survey of Canada. Paper. (1987.), Vol. 87-1A(1) (1987)
Abstract: Ground probing radar surveys were conducted in summer 1986 over two frozen-core containment dams at mining site in NWT, Canada, which had shown signs of leaking tailings water. Ability to image subsurface to 50 m allowed resolution of dam structures, subdam overburden conditions, bedrock topography, and depth of thaw, and also to locate unfrozen zones (taliks) within subsurface.
