Record #84502:

Numerical modelling of the large-scale basal water flux under the west Antarctic ice sheet / William F. Budd, D. Jenssen.

Title: Numerical modelling of the large-scale basal water flux under the west Antarctic ice sheet / William F. Budd, D. Jenssen.
Author(s): Budd, William F.
Jenssen, D.
Date: 1987.
Publisher: Dordrecht: D. Reidel Publishing Co.
In: Dynamics of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet : proceedings of a Workshop held in Utrecht, May 6-8, 1985. (1987.),
Abstract: Three-dimensional ice-sheet model of Ross drainage basin, developed by Budd and others (1984), is used to compute basal temperatures and melt rates for range of values of geothermal flux. As geothermal flux increases, melt area increases and becomes connected to sub-ice shelf water via major ice streams. Steady-state mean water-film thickness can be computed and its pattern is interpreted in terms of possible relationship to basal sliding rates and basal shear stress, particularly under major ice streams.
