Record #84499:

Longitudinal stresses and basal sliding: a comparative study / Cornelis J. Van der Veen.

Title: Longitudinal stresses and basal sliding: a comparative study / Cornelis J. Van der Veen.
Author(s): Van der Veen, Cornelis J.
Date: 1987.
Publisher: Dordrecht: D. Reidel Publishing Co.
In: Dynamics of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet : proceedings of a Workshop held in Utrecht, May 6-8, 1985. (1987.),
Abstract: Main factors in understanding dynamics of marine-based ice sheet. Here, following recent analysis by Alley and Whillans (1984), but without neglecting longitudinal stress gradient along flowline, equation for longitudinal stress throughout ice sheet has been derived from flow law and equilibrium of forces. Incorporating this into numerical model, together with appropriate sliding relation, permits study of effect of these two factors on behaviour of model ice sheet.
