Translated title: | The opening of South Barents Sea for petroleum activity. Proposal for analysing the consequences for the Arctic regions. |

Abstract: | Petroleum Law of Mar 1985 requires report on consequences of new areas opened for exploration. In Barentshavet Syd, this led to projects on seabirds, sea mammals, sea ice, oceanography and problems of beach zone. Barents Sea favours rich biological diversity because of four physical factors: higher temperature of sea than in comparable latitudes, continuous light in large part of summer, vertical circulation of water mass, and numerous fish- rich banks. |
