| Abstract: | During eruptions of Mount St. Helens, occurrence of floods and mudflows made apparent need for predictive water-hazard analysis of other Cascade volcanoes. Basic requirement for such analysis is information about volumes and distributions of snow and ice on other volcanoes. Radar unit in backpack was used to make point measurements of ice thickness from which subglacial contour maps were developed: glacier volumes were measured from these. Distribution of ice and firn patches within 58 glacierized basins is mapped and listed by altitude and by watershed. |
