Abstract: Temporal and spatial distribution of sulphate and nitrate levels in model basin allowed separation of snow into two different types. Vertical profile of both ions in snow cover is presented and shown to be uniform. Successive washout of solutes during snowmelt was studied experimentally and appearance of solutes in runoff demonstrated in winter season of 1984-85.
