Modelling snowmelt runoff using environmental isotope and conventional methods / W. Stichler, A. Herrmann, R.G. Rau.

Title: Modelling snowmelt runoff using environmental isotope and conventional methods / W. Stichler, A. Herrmann, R.G. Rau.
Author(s): Stichler, W.
Herrmann, A.
Rau, R. G.
Date: 1986.
Publisher: Wallingford, Oxfordshire: International Association of Hydrological Sciences
In: Modelling snowmelt-induced processes. Proceedings of a Symposium held during the 2nd Scientific Assembly of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences at Budapest, Hungary, July 1986. .... (1986.),
Abstract: Periods of snowmelt in river basin in Harz mountains, Federal Republic of Germany, were analyzed with respect to runoff mechanisms, using stable isotope ¹⁸O as tracer. Isotope hydrological characterizations of snow cover from open and forested test plots were performed as well as determination of isotopic input functions from snow lysimeters. Isotopic separation of direct snowmelt runoff components showed that groundwater is dominant contribution to flood formation. Confirmed by conventional snowmelt runoff model.
