Abstract: Describes field experiments carried out to investigate magnitude and variations of heat flux through thin sea ice at Lake Saroma (lagoon) near Hokkaido, Japan, in February 1986. Oceanic heat flux was calculated as difference between vertical heat flux within sea ice and latent heat released by freezing at ice-water interface.
