Record #81911:

A potential solution to ice jam flooding: Salmon River, Idaho / Jeff A. Earickson, Jon E. Zufelt.

Title: A potential solution to ice jam flooding: Salmon River, Idaho / Jeff A. Earickson, Jon E. Zufelt.
Author(s): Earickson, Jeff A.
Zufelt, Jon E.
Date: 1986.
Publisher: Iowa City, IA: University of Iowa, Institute of Hydraulic Research
In: 8th International Symposium on Ice, Iowa City, August 18-22, 1986. (1986.), Vol. 2.
Abstract: Ice jams form downstream from city of Salmon every winter, and often progress upstream, causing severe floods in city. Reviews three options for flood control and explains why they were not implemented. Describes another solution, using control structure situated upstream from city. This would operate seasonally and its purpose is to trap frazil ice generated on upper reaches of river, thus preventing it from contributing to jam.
