Record #81576:

The strength and ductility of ice under tension / R.W. Lee, E.M. Schulson.

Title: The strength and ductility of ice under tension / R.W. Lee, E.M. Schulson.
Author(s): Lee, R. W.
Schulson, E. M.
Date: 1986.
Publisher: New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers
In: Proceedings of the Fifth International Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering (OMAE) Symposium, presented ... Tokyo, Japan, April 13-18, 1986. Vol. 4. (1986.),
Abstract: Presents results from study on effect of grain size on strength of polycrystalline ice strained under tension at 10⁻³ s⁻¹ and 10⁻⁷ s⁻¹. Higher rate leads to brittle behaviour and lower rate to ductile behaviour over whole range of grain size examined (1.4 to 7.9 mm)
Notes:

In: Proceedings of the Fifth International Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering (OMAE) Symposium, presented ... Tokyo, Japan, April 13-18, 1986. Vol. 4 / Virgil J. Lunardini, Y.S. Wang, O.A. Ayorinde, Devinder V. Sodhi, eds.

Keywords: 551.32 -- Glaciology.
551.322 -- Ice and snow.
539.56 -- Ice, fragility and brittleness.
