| Abstract: | Defines periglacial belts in Cordillera de los Andes: permafrost above 3200 m and, within this, active layer from 3200 to 5000 m, with mean annual temperature from 0 to -10°C, and widespread permafrost above 5000 m, with air temperature below -10°C. Below this, lies region of seasonal ground freezing. |
