Interactive deformation among clasts of the Precambrian Gowganda Formation, western Ontario: a basis for determining subglacial shear stresses / Robert Giegengack, R. Ian Harker.
Title: | Interactive deformation among clasts of the Precambrian Gowganda Formation, western Ontario: a basis for determining subglacial shear stresses / Robert Giegengack, R. Ian Harker. |
Author(s): | Giegengack, Robert. Harker, R. Ian. |
Date: | 1986. |
In: | Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1986.), Vol. 67(44) (1986) |
Abstract: | Abstract of paper presented at AGU Fall Meeting/ASLO Winter Meeting, 1986. Abrasion of lithified tilloid by latest Pleistocene ice has revealed, on polished bedrock, evidence of highly anisotropic pressure that exceeded compressive strain of unweathered crystalline clasts of cobble- to boulder-size. Stresses consistent with those expected in lodgment till at base of glacier 2 km wide and 500 m deep on slope of 20°. |
Notes: | Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. Vol. 67(44) :947 (1986). |
Keywords: | 551.332.2 -- Drift, glacial. Deposits. 551.332.212 -- Till or boulder clay. E7 -- Glaciology: glacial geology and ice ages. (*41) -- Canada. (*425) -- Ontario. |
