| Abstract: | Discusses mechanisms of sea-spray ice formation and evidence for existence of resulting ice types. Salinities ranged from 1 to 20 parts per thousand and densities from 0.4 to 1.0 g cm⁻³ depending upon air and sediment inclusions. Bond strength of sea-spray ice to several coatings suitable for offshore structures ranged from 29 kPa for uncoated Type 316 stainless steel to 4.4 kPa for polyethylene. |
