Record #80641:

Ice pumps and their rates / E.L. Lewis, R.G. Perkin.

Title: Ice pumps and their rates / E.L. Lewis, R.G. Perkin.
Author(s): Lewis, E. L.
Perkin, R. G.
Date: 1986.
In: Journal of Geophysical Research. (1986.), Vol. 91(C10) (1986)
Abstract: Descending waters, having been in touch with surface ice, will have sensible heat available to cause melting of ice at depth; this constitutes ice pump. Calculations of maximum magnitude of this effect are made which show good agreement with field data available for sea and lake ice. Discussion applied to general case of moving pack ice with well mixed surface layer (Arctic Ocean) and to floating ice shelves (Ross Ice Shelf, Antarctica)
Notes:

Journal of Geophysical Research. Vol. 91(C10) :11, 756-11, 762 (1986).
