Abstract: | Derives equation from deformation measurements at firn pit 20 m deep. Analytical and numerical formulation passes over into Glen's flow law for ice at transition of firn to ice. Basis of analysis is determination of shear strain-rate from tilt rate of pit axis, considering longitudinal and vertical strain-rates, compressibility of firn and triaxial pit deformation. |
