Record #80146:

Nonsimultaneous failure and ice loads on Arctic structures / Michael F. Ashby, and 9 others.

Title: Nonsimultaneous failure and ice loads on Arctic structures / Michael F. Ashby, and 9 others.
Author(s): Ashby, Michael F.
Date: 1986.
Publisher: Richardson, Texas: Offshore Technology Conference
Abstract: Paper presented at conference in Houston, Texas, 5-8 May 1986. Extreme ice loads on offshore structures appear to be proportional to square root of projected contact area. Analogy in indentation of brittle foam suggests simple theory which explains size effect in ice through non-simultaneous failure.
Notes:

Offprint: Eighteenth Annual Offshore Technology Conference; 1986 proceedings. Vol. 1.

Keywords: 624.145.1 -- Floating ice, thrust.
622.24 -- Drilling and boring.
551.32 -- Glaciology.
551.326 -- Floating ice.
