Abstract: | Considers case of landfast winter sea-ice conditions, where large expanse of sea ice is acted upon by wind drag and is loaded statically against structure. As wind speed increases, load on structure rises until ice fractures. Object was to calculate maximum stress sustainable before fracture begins for realistic rates of load increase. |
