Record #78430:

Are Arctic ecoystems vulnerable? / Thor Larsen.

Title: Are Arctic ecoystems vulnerable? / Thor Larsen.
Author(s): Larsen, Thor.
Date: 1985.
In: Norsk Polarinstitutt. Rapportserie. (1985.), Vol. 24 (1985)
Abstract: For purposes of this sort, Arctic boundary is defined as 10 deg. C isotherm for warmest month. Concepts such as specialization, vulnerability, stability of species and populations are discussed, and tropical diversity is compared with Arctic paucity. Author concludes that simplistic myths about Arctic vulnerability compared with tropical resilience need to be scouted. Each is vulnerable in its way, and each has good strategies for coping with its prevailing conditions. Proper understanding of ecological reality is needed to cope with change and threat.
Notes:
