Record #78133:

A Markov model for nearshore ice trajectories / Roger Colony.

Title: A Markov model for nearshore ice trajectories / Roger Colony.
Author(s): Colony, Roger.
Date: 1985[pub. 1990]
In: Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program. Final Reports of Principal Investigators. (1985[pub. 1990]), Vol. 72 (1985[pub. 1990])
Abstract: Presents model in which ice parcel is given initial position and season, and is moved from one position to another, based on conditional probabilities, before melting or leaving region of interest. Statistics of sea-ice motion over short periods are derived from observations of motion of individual ice floes and to define stochastic process from which long-term statistics can be deduced. Model is distinct from deterministic models and has important implications for transport of oil by sea ice. Model results are shown for motions originating in Prudhoe and Peard bays. Includes appendix of FORTRAN computer programs used in this study, which, with slight modification, can be used to study other regions.
