Record #77961:

Constitutional supercooling in natural ice / Richard E. Jones.

Title: Constitutional supercooling in natural ice / Richard E. Jones.
Author(s): Jones, Richard E.
Date: 1985.
In: Eastern Snow Conference. Proceedings. (1985.), Vol. 42nd Annual Meeting (1985)
Abstract: Freezing of fresh water and sea water discussed to show contrasting thermal conditions developed in each of these environments. Texture of ice is described to show controls on c-axis orientation, and principles of constitutional supercooling are explained. Theory is then developed which shows that, whereas constitutional supercooling will always occur in formation of sea ice, it occurs only in very particular thermal environment in formation of fresh-water ice.
