Record #77838:
Seasonal ground freezing in agricultural land and root breakage of alfalfa / Fujio Tsuchiya, Junko Maruyama, Teruyuki Komatsu.
Title: | Seasonal ground freezing in agricultural land and root breakage of alfalfa / Fujio Tsuchiya, Junko Maruyama, Teruyuki Komatsu. |
Author(s): | Tsuchiya, Fujio. Maruyama, Junko. Komatsu, Teruyuki. |
Date: | 1985. |
Publisher: | Sapporo: Hokkaido University Press |
In: | Proceedings of the Fourth International Symposium on Ground Freezing/Sapporo/5-7 August 1985. Ground freezing. Volume two. (1985.), |
Abstract: | Maximum frost depth in Tokachi district, Hokkaido, Japan, was influenced by time of initial snowfall and snow depth, rather than air temperature. Maximum frost depth was assumed to be proportional to square of freezing index until snow depth reached 30 cm. Thawing depth appeared to be directly proportional to thawing index. Effect of frost heave on rate of root breakage of crop measured. |
