Record #77497:

Uranium-series dating of Allan Hills ice / E.L. Fireman.

Title: Uranium-series dating of Allan Hills ice / E.L. Fireman.
Author(s): Fireman, E. L.
Date: 1985.
In: Antarctic Journal of the United States. (1985.), Vol. 20(5) (1985)
Abstract: Uranium-238 decay-series nuclides dissolved in Antarctic ice samples were measured. Ice from Cul de Sac site, Allan Hills, has high concentration of fine volcanic glass shards and high Ra²²⁶, Th²³⁰ and U²³⁴ activities in proportion to shard content, but low U²³⁸ activities compared to samples without volcanic shards. U²³⁸ decay-series results are consistent with recoil of alpha decay products. Using this type of dating, age of Cul de Sac ice was determined: 220 ka with error ranging from +30 to -20 ka.
