Record #77293:

Measuring multi-year sea ice thickness using impulse radar / Austin Kovacs, Rexford M. Morey.

Title: Measuring multi-year sea ice thickness using impulse radar / Austin Kovacs, Rexford M. Morey.
Author(s): Kovacs, Austin.
Morey, Rexford M.
Date: 1985.
Publisher: Morgantown, WV: US Department of Energy, Office of Fossil Energy, Morgantown Energy Technology Center
In: Proceedings of the Arctic Energy Technologies Workshop by Special Extraction Projects Branch, Extraction Products Management Division, held at Sheraton Lakeview, Morgantown, West Virginia, November 14-15, 1984. (1985.),
Abstract: Impulse radar operating at frequency of 80 to 500 MHz did not always detect bottom of ice because of high brine content. Apparent bulk dielectric constant was 3.5, representing effective electromagnetic wavelet velocity of 0.16 m ns⁻¹, which may be used to estimate thickness in cases where ice bottom is detected in ice profile data.
Notes:
